Walking a marathon.

I did not eat your sweet rich grapes,
for thirty years,
appalled at the cruelty and injustice,
watching as those divots where removed from the playing fields,
the nasty party saying we should play cricket with the regime.

Thirty Labour members of our parliament,
got taken to their  marriage in a Sea King helicopter,
forty one lives were saved,
I knew the seriousness of it when the pylons were blown up,
we all clenched our fists and cried when we sang your song.

Then suddenly it came down,
as a wall between nations,
you walked to our freedom,
saving the life of your enemy as he scored a try.
